TRAINING FOR MOUNTAINS,
NOT SWIMMING SUIT

Too many athletes give up their passion because of wear, tear, injury, age, and improper gym work. At Off The Mountain, we train your body to feel good doing the sports you love.

For each mountain sport, we offer one foundational program along with follow-up programs to progress your training. When you purchase a program, you get access for life. We deliver the training content through our mobile app and here on our website.

SKI & SNOWBOARD

Imagine that after three months of training, you finally take that heliskiing trip to Alaska with your best friends – and blow out your knee on day one. Instead of spending four sad days in the lodge, spend 12 weeks developing the joints, muscles, and stability to handle the rigors of skiing and snowboarding.

WHAT YOU GET
  • Develop the lower-body strength to ski or board 12,000+ vertical feet, multiple days in a row.
  • Remain stable and planted while riding fast over variable terrain.
  • Get air with confidence (if you’re into that).
WHAT WE WORK ON
  • Preventing knee injuries, the most common way to end a season.
  • Back health, another weak point for skiers and boarders.
  • The ability to absorb forces underfoot and take a fall.

ALPINE CLIMBING

Remember the last time you summited a peak your body wasn’t ready for? Yeah, it’s miserable – and dangerous. Whether you’re climbing 8,000 feet up Grand Teton or 13,000 feet up Mont Blanc, we can train your strength, fitness, and joints for what lies ahead.

WHAT YOU GET
  • Spend big days in the mountains, with a heavy pack, without feeling wrecked at the end.
  • Recover quicker, minimize injuries, and improve performance.
  • Build knees that can handle alpine terrain.
WHAT WE WORK ON
  • Full-body strength for ascents and healthy joints for descents.
  • Stability for safe, controlled movement in dicey areas.
  • Upper body stamina for 1,000+ feet of climbing.

MOUNTAIN & ROAD BIKERS

If you put enough uphill miles on a bike, eventually your back will hate you – unless, of course, you train your spine and hips for long days in the saddle. We’ve taken mountain bikers from herniated disc to The Whole Enchilada and from constant pain to knocking out 75 miles and 12,000 feet of vertical gain in the Park City Point to Point. In fact, we wrote A Cyclist’s Guide to Back Pain because so many cyclists struggle with it.

WHAT YOU GET
  • Pedal uphill free of back pain.
  • Spend long days in the saddle without hesitation.
  • Feel stable in rock gardens, root sections, sketchy gravel, etc.

WHAT WE WORK ON
  • Controlled movement and greater range of motion in the spine and hips.
  • Maintaining tension in the trunk while breathing from the diaphragm.
  • The awareness to change positions on the bike to relieve soreness and prevent pain.

TRAIL RUNNERS AND HIKERS

If you’ve hit that point where big days in the mountains hurt – in the wrong way – it’s time to train differently. No, your knees don’t need to blow up every time you hike downhill. And no, just thinking of your next trail run shouldn’t make your back ache. We can teach you how to cover distance pain free.

WHAT YOU GET
  • Wander through mountains, canyons, lakes, and forests – without pain.
  • Find that bounce in your step and get rid of the flat feeling on long days.
  • Recover quicker from days with high mileage and lots of elevation change.
WHAT WE WORK ON
  • Stability for navigating uneven, awkward terrain.
  • Efficiently transferring force from your body to the ground.
  • Preventing pain and injury in the ankles, knees, and low back.
